Regatta 2009

Regatta 2009 prize giving
Welcome
Filey Sailing Club is situated to the north of Filey town nestling on the cliffs at the edge of The North Sea.Filey Bay is protected by a large natural outcrop of land called The Brigg which serves as a barrier to the heavy seas and swells from the North to almost Westerley winds.
The Club hosts regular racing for sailing dinghies of all classes. It also has a thriving social calendar for sailiors and non-sailors alike.
For novices or those with a casual interest in dinghy sailing the club is a Royal Yachting Association recognised traing centre where courses can be taken to learn the various different facets of water borne activities.
During July each year the club hosts its annual Regatta which sees up to 150 boats from all over the country competing in a series of races over two days. This is a spectacular sight for sailors an land lubbers alike and sees the town of Filey humming with excitement.

IMPORTANT NEWS! - Filey Regatta - 5th & 6th June 2010
Further Details
Details of menu.
Filey SC has had to change the dates for the 2010 Regatta.
Historically, the event has taken place where possible on the 2nd full weekend falling in July (after the Lord Birkett event at Ullswater).
However, due to the increasing number of entries, combined with the event being a coastal event – the event has to be held over a weekend where the tide heights allow competitors to leave their boats on the beach on Friday and Saturday nights.
When planning the event for 2010 – the event committee felt it had no option but to hold the event on 5th & 6th June to take advantage of appropriate tide heights.
The only other possible dates were well into August but this would likely be unpopular with competitors and also club members who will likely be on summer holidays. The club relies solely on its members to run the event so availability is important.
