Kayaking Event 3rd May 2008

Say Cheese! The Kayaking event on the 3rd of May was a real success and will certainly be repeated. The weather and sea conditions gave everyone the chance to try out the various models of sit on top Kayaks. In total we had 16 Kayaks including the grant obtained tandem and 2 single person types. It was also refreshing to see a large number of junior’s enjoying the event.

With the tide covering the bottom slip way it made it challenging to launch through the surf, and an exciting ride back on the waves straight up the slip. An outer distance mark was placed off the beach which gave a good race track and two races were held. Three experienced Kayakers ventured off to the Brigg and managed to paddle right over the top of it. Three others (including the tandem) navigated around the pole off Filey town which also proved a challenge with the confused water bouncing off the promenade wall.

After all the paddling a drink was in order, and several members moved on to the local pubs and restaurants to finish the day off which didn’t conclude until 4am Sunday morning!

All in all a great day. Thanks to all those who attended. Photos can be found here.

The Wykeham Wander - 13th January 2008

Working out the clue The Wykeham Wander Geocache Walk, was a huge success with 14 members and friends taking part. Although the weather forecast was poor...it didn't rain !!

After a brief introduction to geocaching, given by Eddie in the Downe Arms car park, the group set off to find the 6 clues.

The walk was muddy in places, especially on the approach to Ruston, but everyone was well prepared for the conditions.

All of the clues were easily located, which led us to the final cache position.

After logging our find in the cache log book we set off back to Wykeham, and had a very nice meal at the Downe Arms.

A brilliant walk enjoyed by all.

Eddie
